An instant estimate instead of "we will get back to you"

In many service businesses, the quote is the slowest part of the sales process. While a prospect waits, they ask a competitor. This concept gives a fictional solar installer, Brightroof Energy, a calculator that turns four questions into an honest price range and a booked site visit.

Self-initiated design study. Not a client project.

The problem

In this scenario the website offers only a long contact form. Quotes take days because staff collect basic information by phone first. Many enquiries go quiet before the quote arrives.

Design decisions

  1. Four questions anyone can answer

Roof type, approximate size, location and electricity bill range. No technical knowledge required.

  2. A range with its assumptions shown

The estimate is a range, and the assumptions behind it are listed, so it sets expectations instead of promising a number.

  3. Book the visit in the same flow

Available site visit times appear right under the estimate, so momentum is not lost.

  4. The estimate follows up for you

The visitor gets the estimate by email with a link back to book, and the team receives a lead that already includes the answers.

What we would measure

  • Calculator starts and completions
  • Site visits booked per estimate
  • Time from first visit to booked visit
  • Staff time spent on unqualified enquiries
