A B2B catalogue where engineers find the right part in two clicks

Engineers and buyers arrive at a manufacturer's site with a specification, not a product name. If the catalogue is organised like a brochure, they cannot find what they need and move on to a distributor. This concept redesigns the catalogue of a fictional valve manufacturer, Kestrel Flow Systems.

Self-initiated design study. Not a client project.

The problem

In this scenario products are grouped by marketing family names, datasheets are PDFs that must be requested by email, and quote requests arrive without part numbers. Sales engineers spend hours clarifying basic details.

Design decisions

  1. Filter by the values engineers search for

Size, pressure rating, material, connection type and certification, with counts that update as filters change.

  2. Compare side by side

Up to four parts compared on every specification, with differences highlighted.

  3. Datasheets and CAD files without a gate

Downloads are open, because an engineer who cannot get a datasheet chooses a competitor's part.

  4. Quote requests built from a parts list

Buyers add parts and quantities to a list and request a quote for all of them, so sales receives exact part numbers.

What we would measure

  • Searches that end in a product page
  • Datasheet and CAD downloads
  • Quote requests with complete part numbers
  • Sales time spent clarifying requests
